Literary Addicts: Feb 27, 2013

This week's question:

Was there a quote that just blew you away? Or one that made you totally mad? Or cry?

There are two characters I firmly believe are great for quotes....Gandalf and Albus Dumbledore. Is it just coincidence that these two characters are wizards of great renown as well?

Here is my absolute favorite from Gandalf:

“Do you wish me a good morning, or mean that it is a good morning whether I want it or not; or that you feel good this morning; or that it is a morning to be good on?”
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit

I love this quote because it's just so funny...so detail oriented, so obvious to the speaker's mind. How many ways can one misinterpret such a simple phrase as "Good Morning."

  1. That is cute. The same can be said for the tone in which it is stated.

  2. I read it in his voice as well. LOVE GANDALF! ~Mandie

  3. Love this! It's funny how we say common phrases all the time -- such as "Good morning" or "How are you?" -- without really thinking about the meaning of them.

  4. That's a wonderful quote. It really shows us Gandalf.
